Accomplishments

Homelessness
​

​​

  • Supported proven Housing-First solutions to homelessness, cooperative housing models and related resources

  • As Chair of the City Council Housing Committee, directed millions of dollars from the City’s Housing Trust Fund to create new affordable housing

  • Voted for all four LD2003 amendments to update, reform and simplify zoning to allow for more housing development.

  • Opposed relocating the homeless shelter six miles from downtown to a residential neighborhood

  • Supported the creation of the Social Housing Task Force to accellerate housing production

  • Supported affordable housing mandates for housing developers

  • Supported limits and fees on short term rentals like Airbnb to mitigate community impact

  • Opposed zoning and development policies favoring corporate interests over neighborhood needs​​​

Health, Safety &
Environment

​

  • Wrote and passed a resolution opposing unsafe, illegal ICE activity and demanded that we investigate ways to protect our residents

  • Supported programs to ensure proper disposal of needles, which reduced needles in public by over 50% in less than one year

  • Helped to bring USL Soccer to Portland, and funded renovations to Fitzpatrick Stadium to support the Hearts of Pine

  • Consistently backed climate policies protecting Portland’s waterfront and increasing resilience against climate change

  • Supported a ban on harmful pesticides despite pesticide industry opposition

  • Worked to close environmental loopholes still exploited by polluters

Schools

​

  • Consistently supported school budgets and public education initiatives

  • Successfully campaigned to repair four of Portland's oldest schools with a citizen bond initiative

  • Opposed efforts to cut $1.2 million from underfunded classrooms

  • Restored trust and collaboration between the City Council, School Board and Portland Public Schools

Workers’ Rights & Economic Equity

​

  • Supported universal paid sick leave for all Portland workers

  • Championed reform of corporate welfare to ensure publicly funded housing businesses pay livable wages

  • Supported the minimum wage campaign leading to Portland’s current policy

Democracy, Civic & Political Engagement

​​​

  • Championed and supported Portland’s Clean Elections initiative

  • Advocated for creation of office of Civic & Community Engagement to improve collaboration between City Hall and residents

  • Supported police body cameras for transparency and accountability

  • Led successful effort to ban facial recognition technology in Portland and influenced a statewide law

  • Co-chaired the Racial Equity Steering Committee producing strong equity recommendations now implemented internally
